FeW: A Lightweight Block Cipher
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we propose a new lightweight block cipher called FeW 1 which encrypts 64-bit plaintext using key size 80/128 bits and produces 64-bit ciphertext. FeW is a software oriented design with the aim of achieving high efficiency in software based environments. We use a mix of Feistel and generalised Feistel structures (referred as Feistel-M structure hereinafter) to enhance the security of our design against basic cryptanalytic attacks like differential, linear, impossible differential and zero correlation attacks. Security analysis of this scheme proves its strength against present day cryptanalytic attacks.

Total break of Zorro using linear and differential attacks
An AES-like lightweight block cipher, namely Zorro, was proposed in CHES 2013. While it has a 16-byte state, it uses only 4 S-Boxes per round. This weak nonlinearity was widely criticized, insofar as it has been directly exploited in all the attacks on Zorro reported by now, including the weak key, reduced round, and even full round attacks. In this paper, using some properties discovered by Wa...
متن کاملImpossible Differential Cryptanalysis of Reduced-Round Midori64 Block Cipher (Extended Version)
Impossible differential attack is a well-known mean to examine robustness of block ciphers. Using impossible differ- ential cryptanalysis, we analyze security of a family of lightweight block ciphers, named Midori, that are designed considering low energy consumption. Midori state size can be either 64 bits for Midori64 or 128 bits for Midori128; however, both vers...
متن کاملExploring Energy Efficiency of Lightweight Block Ciphers
In the last few years, the field of lightweight cryptography has seen an influx in the number of block ciphers and hash functions being proposed. One of the metrics that define a good lightweight design is the energy consumed per unit operation of the algorithm. For block ciphers, this operation is the encryption of one plaintext. By studying the energy consumption model of a CMOS gate, we arri...
متن کاملTWINE: A Lightweight Block Cipher for Multiple Platforms
This paper presents a 64-bit lightweight block cipher TWINE supporting 80 and 128bit keys. TWINE realizes quite small hardware implementation similar to the previous lightweight block cipher proposals, yet enables efficient software implementations on various platforms, from micro-controller to high-end CPU. This characteristic is obtained by the use of generalized Feistel structure combined wi...
متن کاملHalka: A Lightweight, Software Friendly Block Cipher Using Ultra-lightweight 8-bit S-box
This paper presents the design of a lightweight, yet software friendly, block cipher. Most of the lightweight block ciphers are nibbleoriented as the implementation of a 4-bit S-box is much more compact than an 8-bit S-box. This paper uses a novel implementation of multiplicative inverse for 8-bit S-boxes using LFSR requiring only 138 gateequivalent. With this powerful scheme, we design a light...
